Sign up and Log in with Gmail

Lace uses your Google account to integrate with Gmail, so signing up is simple.

How to Sign up and Log in
  1. Sign Up: Go to the Lace app and click “Sign in with Google.” You don’t need to create a separate username or password – just choose the Google account you use for your client communications.

  2. Grant Access: When prompted, grant Lace permission to access your Gmail via Google OAuth. This is a secure process – Lace never sees your password, and you can revoke access at any time. The permission allows Lace to read your emails and attachments so it can find design files and feedback in your inbox

Secure Google OAuth Connection

When you connect your Gmail to Lace, we use Google’s OAuth 2.0 for authentication. This means:

  • No Password Sharing: You never give Lace your email password. Instead, you sign in via Google’s official login, and Google issues a secure token to Lace.

  • Selective Permissions: Lace requests only the permissions it truly needs – primarily the ability to read emails/attachments in order to identify design files and to send emails on your behalf (so that replying via Lace or sending share links is possible). We do not ask for permissions to delete emails or manage settings.

  • Privacy: Your data is treated with care. Lace only analyzes your inbox for the purpose of organizing design communications. Personal or unrelated emails are ignored. (For example, Lace might scan for emails with attachments or certain file types, and skip things like promotions or personal conversations.)

During the OAuth flow, Google will show you a consent screen listing what Lace will be able to access. You should see something like “Read, compose, send, and manage your email” – this sounds broad, but it’s the standard scope required for an app that works with Gmail. Lace needs these abilities to function (it has to read emails to find files and send replies when you ask it to). If you’re uncomfortable at any point, you can cancel the process. But rest assured, this is the same secure method many email apps use to integrate with Gmail.
